Dietary Taboos for Uterine Fibroids

Dietary Taboos for Uterine Fibroids

The formation of uterine fibroids is related to excessive estrogen stimulation. Although the correlation between diet and the incidence of uterine fibroids is often not valued by people, studies have reported that women whose staple food is animal-based have a significantly higher incidence of uterine fibroids than those whose staple food is green vegetables.

Obesity is positively correlated with the incidence of uterine fibroids. Animal experiments have shown that high-fat foods promote the production and release of certain hormones, so the incidence of uterine fibroids in obese women is significantly higher. For every 10 kilograms of weight a woman gains, the risk of developing uterine fibroids increases by 21%, or for every 1 unit increase in body mass index (BMI), the risk increases by 6%.

Dr. Sophia Davis, a gynecologist and nutritionist, points out that a reasonable diet plays an important role in the prevention and adjuvant treatment of uterine fibroids. By adjusting dietary habits, it can help regulate hormone levels in the body, reduce the stimulation of fibroids, and thus slow down the growth of fibroids.

I. Dietary Notes for Uterine Fibroids

  1. Reduce intake of hot, coagulant and hormone-containing foods such as longan, red dates, donkey-hide gelatin, and royal jelly.

  2. Reduce intake of irritating foods and beverages such as chili, prickly ash, raw green onions, raw garlic, and white wine.

  3. Minimize the consumption of foods related to the animal reproductive system or foods containing large amounts of hormones (both processed and natural), including dairy products, eggs, and meat from hormone-fed animals.

  4. Eat a light diet and reduce intake of hair-trigger foods such as mutton, dog meat, shrimp, crab, eel, salted fish, and snakehead.

  5. You can eat a small amount of plant-based foods such as pomegranates and certain beans, because these foods contain phytohormones (such as isoflavones) related to female hormones.

  6. Do not overeat.

II. Healthy Eating Habits for Patients with Uterine Fibroids

A dietary therapy based on high fiber, low fat, low sugar, and vegetarian food can reduce bleeding and pain caused by uterine fibroids, and can shrink the fibroid fibers. As animal experiments have shown that high-fat foods promote the production and release of certain hormones, the incidence of uterine fibroids in obese women is significantly higher. Therefore, developing good eating habits has a certain inhibitory effect on uterine fibroids.

  1. Eat regularly and quantitatively, and do not overeat.

  2. Adhere to a low-fat diet, and eat more lean meat, green vegetables, fruits, and fish.

  3. Reduce intake of spicy, alcoholic, and frozen foods.

  4. Often eat nutritious dried fruits such as sesame and melon seeds.

  5. Eat more whole grains such as corn.

  6. Eat more seaweed foods, including nostoc, laver, kelp, sea lettuce, wakame, etc. Regular consumption of seaweed foods can effectively regulate the pH of the blood and avoid excessive consumption of alkaline elements (calcium, zinc) due to acid neutralization.
